In which I learn an important lesson, and little gets done around here
Disclaimer: Nothing but rambling about knitting stuff ahead. Skip if you don't give a damn.
Once upon a time, in a land not so very far away because it wasn't really a far away land at all, but from this very same laptop, I decided that I would be brilliant and order several addi turbos in 32"-40" lengths for the sole purpose of magic looping. This idea seemed ingenious at the time. After all, I'd only need ONE needle in every size for any damned thing that I pleased. Thus, the needles were ordered and there was much rejoicing in the house of Briar.
Though I would gaze lovingly upon my collection of coveted addi turbos, I found that I never reached for them, instead reaching for a multicolored set of double pointed needles, or a smart looking 10" set of Susan Bates aluminum sexiness. "But still", I said to myself. "When I want to use them, I can." And peace and harmony continued for what seemed a very long time.
I've discovered that I HATE magic looping. I hate it a lot. It's awkward and finicky, and ladders are just waiting to happen after every turn. You'd think I'd be smart enough to have at least TRIED the technique before blowing my money. Well, you'd be thinking wrong. So now I have about 8 various sized needles that I just don't want. I want a 16" and a 24" for every one of those super long and pointless needles that I have. I'll likely be selling them all off for about $5 apiece, so if anyone wants some ridiculously long addi turbos--I'm your guy.
On a somewhat related note, I'm not getting very far in my Irish Mock at all. I'm using a pair of the aforementioned addi turbos, and I have to hold the stitches so tightly to keep them from flying off the slippery needles that my wrists start screaming in pain after about 2 rounds, and 2 rounds a day just isn't cutting it. I'm thinking that I'll buy a set of 24" addi bamboo needles and just buy another set of 16" when I need them later on. I just need something with more grip on the stitches so I can ease up on mine. What little I have so far is looking lovely, however. Donegal Tweed was definitely made for showing off stitches.
I figure that as long as I'm going to be ordering new needles, that I may as well go ahead and order more so I can join the Sweaters From Camp Knitalong. Now this is a book that my library has, so I went and took it out so I could peruse the patterns. I've decided on the Celtic Knots raglan. Only because I'm cheap, and because steeks aren't involved so I don't need to worry about the yarn not sticking, I'll be using knitpicks Palette in nutmeg and twig. I think I'm going to change the colors around every other full band just for variety and interest, though. We'll see what happens.
